Be A Book Hero™ Program

The Be A Book Hero™ Program is the flagship initiative of the Kiwanis Literacy Club Foundation, a nonprofit organization based in Burbank, California. Launched in 2013, the program is dedicated to promoting children's literacy by providing free access to books in underserved communities.

The program operates under the belief that "Reading is a Super Power." By placing books directly into the hands of children, the foundation aims to:

  • Foster a lifelong love for reading.

Through community engagement and strategic partnerships, the Be A Book Hero™ Program has made significant strides in addressing literacy challenges and promoting educational equity.

Book Distributions

The foundation organizes events and partnerships to distribute new books directly to children, ensuring they have materials to read at home. Through these initiatives, the foundation has distributed over 500,000 books, aiming to foster a love for reading and improve literacy rates among children.

Book Boxes

These are custom-built, themed mini-libraries installed in various public spaces such as parks, schools, police stations, and shelters. Each box is designed to be inviting and accessible, encouraging children to take books home and develop a love for reading. To date, over 175 book boxes have been installed providing free access to books for children.
